4 Months Old is Such a Great Age to Book a Baby Photoshoot!

If you were anything like me you were completely overwhelmed by becoming a new parent. Perhaps you thought about newborn photos but just couldn’t figure out how to handle it. Perhaps the thought of getting your baby to a newborn photography studio in those first 2 weeks just seemed impossible. If I wasn’t a photographer myself I probably would have felt the same.

If your baby is a little older it’s actually a great time for baby photos. 4 months is such a fun age to take pictures you will really love. This age is often overlooked…but it shouldn’t be! Why do I recommend 4 month old baby photos?

• At 4 months your baby will generally be happy and smiling during the photo shoot. Other more serious expressions can also be captured, as well, and are just as beautiful.

• At 4 months babies can generally lay on their tummy and push up which is an adorable pose. Other poses 4 month olds can generally do are lay on their back looking at the camera and sitting propped up with support.

• If family pictures are desired, 4 month olds have great interaction with their parents and will often smile and look directly at the camera.

• 4 month old photo sessions are shorter than newborn photos. Generally 45 minutes to 1 hour are needed.

• Parents are hopefully over the initial stress of newborn phase and perhaps getting a bit more sleep.

Some tips for the best 4 month photos:

• Relax and have fun

• Don’t rush. Give your baby time to warm up to your photographer at the beginning. They might be starting to have a bit of separation anxiety at this age.

• Book the photo session around nap times.

• If solid foods have been started - don’t introduce anything new the day of the photo session (this avoids rashes/tummy troubles)
